A supporting rod or a central shaft with which a wheel or a set of wheel revolves is generally known as axle. On wheeled vehicles, the axle may be fixed to the wheels rotating with them or fixed to the vehicle, with the wheels rotating around the axle. Bearings are provided at the mounting points where the axle is supported. Front and the rear axle are one the most important components in everyday or recreational use of a vehicle.
Types of axle:
Gear ratio, angle, tire height, axle and suspension set up can make or break the performance of a vehicle. If not set up properly and or not regularly maintained the differentials on any vehicle can end up causing headaches that lead to expensive repairs which includes bearing, axle, seals, etc. There are three types of axle:
- Rear axle
- Front axle
- Stub axle
