Podiatrists are specialized healthcare professionals who deal with the foot and ankle. To be a podiatrist one must receive a bachelor's degree from a four-year university, then go through four years of Podiatric Medical Training, where they are awarded a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Diploma (DPM). They then go through 2 to 3 years of a hospital-based training, which approves the podiatrist to be proficient in surgical procedure of the forefoot or the whole foot and ankle.
